Burglars strike at Sainik Farms
Staff Reporter
Decamp with Rs.2 lakh in cash and jewellery valued at Rs.40 lakh
NEW DELHI: Some burglars struck at the house of a businessman in Sainik Farms here on Thursday and made off with cash and jewellery worth several lakhs.
Fifty-eight-year-old Jatish Virmani and his wife Manju were sleeping in their bedroom on the first floor when the burglars broke into the house by removing a window grill. They allegedly decamped with Rs.2 lakh in cash and gold and diamond jewellery and silver utensils valued at Rs.40 lakh.
“I went to bed around 12-30 p.m. after reading the newspaper. My wife was already asleep. A few hours later I heard some noise. I ignored it initially, but the sound persisted. When I got up and went outside, I found the wooden cupboards in my dressing room ransacked and gold and diamond jewellery missing. The burglars took away cash and silver utensils. Four to five men must have been involved in the burglary,” said Mr. Virmani, who owns a factory at Anand Parbat and a car accessories shop in Noida. The burglars even took away Mr. Virmani’s cell phone from a cupboard in his bedroom.
