NEW DELHI: Four young men have been arrested by the Special Cell of the Delhi police for allegedly planning to kidnap a businessman for a ransom. The police claim to have seized a revolver, a country-made pistol and live cartridges from them. The Special Cell had recently rescued a software engineer who was kidnapped for a ransom of Rs.50 lakh on May 31. Six people including Mohammad Hasan Raja were arrested in that case. During interrogation, Hasan allegedly disclosed that he had procured the firearms from Vikram, a resident of Rewari in Haryana. Subsequently the police kept Vikram under surveillance and found that he along with his accomplice Shamsher Singh Saini had been planning to kidnap a West Delhi businessman. Acting on a tip-off that Shamsher would come to Janakpuri (East) Metro station to execute the plan on July 4, a team led by Inspector Mohan Chand Sharma laid a trap and arrested him along with his accomplice Deepak Ahlawat. Two firearms were allegedly seized from them. During interrogation, the accused purportedly disclosed that they had planned to kidnap the businessman along with the other gang members, three of them identified as Manoj Bhandari, Vikram and Rishi. The accused had recently tried to kidnap the businessman at Ludhiana, but failed. At the instance of Shamsher and Deepak, the police arrested Manoj and Akhtar Hussain in Ludhiana on Tuesday.
