PERAMBALUR: The Rs.61.11-crore Coleroon Combined Drinking Water Scheme, which would supply water for 306 habitations in Perambalur, Veppanthattai and Alathur panchayat unions, would be completed by September 2009. Residents of Arumbavur and Poolampadi town panchayats in the district would also get supply from the scheme. Collector wellWork on construction of the Collector Well was underway. Pipelines were also being laid. The scheme envisages supply of about 104.99 million litres a day (MLD) to a population of about 3.09 lakhs in the ultimate stage by 2039. Apart from this about 50 MLD would be supplied for industries, Collector Anil Meshram said in a press release. Source in Coleroon riverbedThe scheme would have its source in the Coleroon river bed at Sengaraiyur. About 40 new ground level and 18 overhead water tanks would be built. Fund santionedThe State Government has approved the sanction of Rs.168 lakh a year towards maintenance of the scheme, Mr.Meshram said.
