BHUBANESWAR: Medical seats in three government-run medical colleges disappeared thick and fast as the counselling conducted by Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) began here on Friday. By afternoon all the seats meant for general category students in three medical colleges such as SCB Medical College, Cuttack, MKCG Medical College, Berhampur and VSS Medical College, Burla were filled up. “We have called altogether 1,553 students for 382 seats available under state quota. While 600 general category students were invited on the first day and 140 students belonging to scheduled caste and scheduled tribe were enlisted,” Sitaram Mahapatra, JEE Vice-Chairman, said. He said for the first time counselling for 42 seats in Bachelor in Dental Science (BDS), which was available only in SCB Medical College only, would be done. For students from other states 68 seats were earmarked in three government medical colleges. However, counselling for students qualified in All India Pre-Medical Test for private medical colleges could not be taken up since State government did not receive any status of seats from those colleges.
