Assurance: Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University J .A .K Tareen addressing the striking students in Puducherry on Friday. PUDUCHERRY: Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University J.A.K Tareen on Friday assured that he would personally look into the student’s complaints of supply of “substandard food items” in the University hostels. Addressing a group of students who resorted to a protest demonstration in front of the University main gate from Thursday 8 p.m., he said the complaints would be taken up on a priority basis. “If the complaints about the supply of substandard food items in the hostels were true, it would be set right immediately,” Mr. Tareen said. However, he reminded the students that the University had to take into account the interest of more than 1,000 students staying in the hostel if arrangements have to be changed. Several students had appreciated the University’s efforts to improve the quality and quantity of food items served in the hostels, he said. “Your complaints have to be verified before I take any corrective steps.” Mr. Tareen also warned students of stringent action if they resorted to protests inside the University campus to highlight their grievances. Following the assurance given by the Vice Chancellor, the students withdrew their agitation.
