Allahabad: The Allahabad High Court has stayed the arrest of Shishir Bajaj, who owns over a dozen sugar mills in Uttar Pradesh, and a number of his associates in connection with FIRs lodged against him for alleged non-payment of dues to sugarcane growers. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justice Imitiyaz Murtaza and Justice S. C. Nigam stayed the arrest of Bajaj, Chairman and Managing Director of Bajaj Hindustan Ltd, and other company officials who had sought quashing of FIRs lodged for non-payment of dues despite a Supreme Court order. The Court, while staying the arrests, however, ordered payment of dues at the earliest and at the prescribed rate of Rs.10.50 a quintal. The Court has fixed July 29 as the next date of hearing in the case. - PTI
