Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh Government will publish a directory giving details about the life and contributions of martyrs of the First War of Independence in 1857, Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal said on Friday. The Government would seek cooperation from historians and people having documentary evidences about the heroes of the First War of Independence. Speaking at a seminar to mark the birth anniversary of ‘Pahari Gandhi’ Baba Kanshi Ram, a freedom fighter, he said district headquarters should gather data about their contributions. Born in Kangra district in 1882, Ram was accorded the title ‘Pahari Gandhi’ by former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. A high-level committee has been constituted to install a statue of Rani Laxmi Bai in the Rani Jhansi park. -- PTI
