The new Chief Justice is likely to take oath on July 16 CUTTACK: Allahabad High Court judge Justice Balbir Singh Chauhan will be the new Chief Justice of Orissa High Court. The Presidential notification and the warrant of appointment of Justice Chauhan have already reached the court, according to official sources. The swearing-in ceremony of Justice Chauhan is likely to be held on July 16 considering the availability of acting Governor Syed Sibtey Razi who is also the governor of Jharkhand, says J.K. Sahu, principal private secretary in the Chief Justice’s office here. 22nd Chief JusticeJustice Chauhan would be the 22nd Chief Justice of the Orissa High Court which was established in 1948 here. Following the transfer of Chief Justice A.K. Ganguly to Madras High Court as Chief Justice in May this year, Justice I. M. Quddusi is currently officiating as the acting Chief Justice of Orissa. Number upWith the appointment of Justice Chauhan, the strength of judges in Orissa High Court would go up to 19, the highest- ever during the past six decades of its existence. Following the National Law Commission’s suggestion, the Orissa government has given sanction for 22 judges in the High Court to tackle the mounting pending cases.
