Revised bus fares come into effect from today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State government has notified the increase in the fares of stage carriers in the State empowering the State Transport Authority or the Regional Transport Authority to fix the new bus fares.

The revised fares will come into effect from July 12, as per the notification issued by Additional Chief Secretary Ajoy Choudhari for the government here on Friday.

The minimum fare for ordinary, mofussil, city fast passenger and town services will be Rs.4. It will be Rs.5 for fast passenger and limited stop fast passenger services.

The minimum fare for super fast services will be Rs.10; super express Rs.15; super deluxe /semi sleeper Rs.20; luxury, hi-tech services, air-conditioned and Volvo services Rs.30.

The Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) will charge the revised fares from commuters from Friday midnight. As per the new fares worked out by KSRTC, Rs.4 will be charged for stage I in ordinary buses of the KSRTC; Rs.4.50 for stage II, Rs.5 for stage III; Rs.5.50 for stage IV; Rs.7 for stage V; Rs.8.50 for stage VI and Rs.10 for Stage VII.

In fast passenger services, the fares from Thrivuananthapuram to Kollam will be Rs.43, Alappuzha Rs.92, Ernakulam Rs.128, Thrissur Rs.175, Kozhikode Rs.262, Kannur Rs.316, Payannur Rs.340 and Rs. 384 up to Kasaragod. The revised fare in super fast from Thiruvananthapuram to Attingal will be Rs.24; Kollam and Kottarakara Rs.48 each; Alappuzha Rs. 104; Muvattupuzha Rs.138; Ernakulam Rs.146; Thrissur Rs.198; Palakkad Rs.224; Kozhikode Rs.284; Kannur Rs.344; Payannur Rs. 372 and Rs.420 to Kasaragod. A KSRTC official said commuters will have to pay Rs.one in addition to the revised fare for all fares above Rs.25.
