About three dozen TDP cadres and several leaders arrested on Friday afternoon while staging dharna
Power packed: TDP activists staging a protest in front of a power sub-station in Tirupati on Friday. - HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party organised demonstrations across the State on Friday protesting against the Congress government’s failure to provide uninterrupted power supply to consumers, especially farmers. In the State capital, about three dozen TDP cadres and several leaders were arrested on Friday afternoon when they staged a dharna outside the offices of the Transmission Corporation of Andhra Pradesh demanding removal of power cuts in the domestic and industrial sectors and uninterrupted farm supply for nine hours a day. The dharna was led by Member of Parliament E. Dayakar Rao and legislators -- G. Sayanna, T. Srinivas Yadav, K. Atchan Naidu -- and a host of other senior party leaders. They brought traffic to a halt for quite a while after which the leaders went into the offices to submit their memorandum. Mr. Dayakar Rao told presspersons later that they had given four days to the government to rectify the situation. Pre-poll promiseThey recalled the pre-poll promise of Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy assuring farmers of nine hours quality power and regretted that he had reneged on it.
