NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court on Friday directed the Tihar Central Jail authorities here that no special privileges be allowed to Pappu Yadav, MP from Bihar. A Division Bench of the Court comprising Justices Manmohan Sarin and S.L. Bhayana passed the direction. Taking suo motu note of a television programme titled “Ghoos Mahal and Tihar Saga” and a report in a national daily titled “For Pappu fans, all roads lead to Tihar” highlighting undue favours being given to Pappu Yadav and other inmates in the jail, the High Court had in 2005 asked for replies from the Secretary, Department of Justice, Union Home Affairs Ministry; the Delhi Government; and the Director-General (Prisons), Delhi. The jail administration in its reply had informed the Court that whatever facilities were provided to the MP were in accordance with the jail manual. Medical examinationThe Court directed the jail administration to keep in mind the Supreme Court directions in respect of Pappu Yadav that no special privileges were to be provided to him unless allowed by the jail manual. It further directed the jail administration to get the MP medically examined every quarter by an independent board of doctors. The board after his examination would give its opinion whether the MP required treatment and special facilities like a special bed and a cooler in jail, the Court said.
