SATHYAMANGALAM: The State Government is concerned about not many students pursuing higher education and is taking steps to address the issue, State Minister for Handlooms and Textiles N.K.K.P. Raja has said.

Addressing students of the Government Girls’ Higher Secondary School, Sathyamangalam, after inaugurating the Anna Centenary Building Block, he said only seven per cent of students who completed schooling pursued collegiate education.

It was a cause for concern for all concerned, and particularly the Government, he said, and added that it was trying to address the issue through schemes.

Mr. Raja then asked the students not to feel inferior about pursuing education in a Government school.

“Education here is in no way inferior to a private school, convent. It is here that all those who want to study receive education, with no regard for caste, class or religion or even economic status.”

He then advised the students to pursue education with dedication.

“There is nothing else that will help you come up in life.”

Union Minister of State for Textiles E.V.K.S. Elangovan said the best wealth one could give to another was education.

He then urged students to make best use of the facilities provided to come up in life.

Mr. Elangovan also told the students that the way to women’s liberation was through education, as it would ensure economic independence.

The Ministers then praised the efforts of the V. Vaitheeswaran, Head of the Parent-Teachers’ Association and donor to the school.

Members of Legislative Assembly, Government officials, school teachers and others participated.
