Consumerfed to start hotel chains, Triveni coffee houses Food packets to be made available at Secretariat
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Cooperative Consumers Federation (Consumerfed) has chalked out a Rs.175 crore project and a vision document titled ‘Vision 2011’ for strengthening and expanding its activities, Minister for Cooperation and Devaswom, G. Sudhakaran, has said. Replying to questions in the Assembly on Friday, the Minister said the vision document had been submitted to the National Cooperative Development Council (NCDC) for approval. The Consumerfed has decided to start hotel chains and Triveni coffee houses at Statue in Thiruvananthapuram, Kundra in Kollam and Gandhi Nagar in Ernakulam. Food packets at nominal rates will be made available at Secretariat and Vikas Bhavan in the capital, Civil Station at Ernakulam. Triveni Super Market will be set up in 12 more places in the State. Mr. Sudhakaran said that a survey by a special team in 1,145 temples had found that 24,696.34 acres of land had been encroached. The team had also unearthed land to the extent of 1,337.07 acres in the temples during the survey. Minister for Education and Culture, M. A. Baby said a welfare fund would be set up for the artistes and talks are on with the Labour department. He said the proposal of Speaker, K. Radhakrishnan for an integrated pension scheme for all artistes would be considered. Mr. Baby said the shift system in schools is being stopped in phases to avoid inconvenience to students. Last year, it was stopped in 40 schools. The system exists in another 530 schools in the state. Minister for Forest Benoy Viswom said survey work for fixing the boundary on the seven kilometre Tamil Nadu-Kerala and the five kilometre Kerala-Karnataka border is on. He said that ‘Kalavara’ margin free markets to buy construction materials at no minal rates would be set up in Kozhikode and Thiruvananthapuram this financial year. Minister for Home, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, in reply to a written question, said 72 cases are under CBI investigation in the state. Cases had been registered against 24 persons in the state for involving in racketeering in the guise of spirituality.
