Narmada oustees call off agitation

BHOPAL: The Narmada oustees called off their sit-in strike on Friday after Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan assured their delegation that the government would follow court orders and also the norms specified in the rehabilitation policy.

The Chief Minister’s response came after thousands of affected people by the Bargi, Indira Sagar, Maheshwar, Maan and Upper Veda projects took out a protest march on Thursday before staging a dharna here.

A delegation of Narmada oustees also met Governor Balram Jhakar on Friday.

He promised to write to the Chief Minister asking him to ensure their rehabilitation and resettlement.
