Safety measures to be taken

NEW DELHI: With the new academic year due to begin this coming week, the Delhi University authorities have taken several measures to facilitate a smooth induction of students into colleges and prevent ragging on the campus.

At a meeting of the University’s Proctorial Board colleges were requested to strictly enforce rules and regulations, especially provisions of Ordinance XV-B and XV-C pertaining to maintenance of discipline and prohibition and punishment for ragging respectively.

The meeting was attended by Delhi Police officers and University authorities. It was decided that the Supreme Court judgment on ragging be implemented strictly by all colleges.

Control Rooms

Two joint control rooms, one each on the North Campus (27667221) and the South Campus (24119832) will be set up. The police will introduce mobile patrolling from this year to check any incidents of ragging.

Colleges have been asked to form disciplinary squads and restrict entry of outsiders to hostels. Also, they have been directed to prominently display rules pertaining to prohibition of ragging.

There is provision for sealed complaint boxes in colleges and hostels and responsibility will be fixed for looking into complaints received and taking immediate action whenever required.

Safety measures

Extra vigil would be maintained at all eating joints on the campus. In addition, police pickets would be placed outside every college with special assistance being provided to women’s colleges.

“There will be regular and unannounced inspections to detect unauthorised entry/stay in hostels. No guests would be allowed to stay in the hostels during the initial weeks of re-opening of the University,” said an official release.

“Acts of indiscipline and ragging would be dealt with strictly under the University’s Statutes and Ordinances which give legal authority to Principals and Wardens to take preventive as well as punitive action whenever required,” said the Registrar of the University, A. K. Dubey.

Police on guard

The police will continue to regulate traffic and safety at various sensitive locations on the campus and control entry through gates and barricades wherever necessary.
