Berth 9 to be inaugurated on July 14

Tuticorin: The Tuticorin Port Trust conducted a trial of video-conferencing planned for the inauguration of Berth 9 by the Chief Minister on July 14, here on Friday.
The Berth would be commissioned by the Chief Minister from Chennai through video-conferencing mode. Union Minister for Shipping T.R. Baalu, a few Ministers from the state cabinet and senior bureaucrats were expected to be present at the port during the inaugural.
A. Subbiah, Deputy Chairman, Tuticorin Port Trust, said that about 250 Central Industrial Security Force and traffic personnel from the local police, would be deployed to provide security and to streamline the traffic on the port premises during the inaugural.
He said that about 3,000 guests were expected for the function.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Municipal Administration, Niranjan Mardi, on Friday reviewed the progress of arrangements for the inaugural of Tuticorin Corporation by the Chief Minister here on August 5.
He held talks with the senior municipal officials.
