HYDERABAD: “My first love is music and the taste depends on the mood. But, I do read lot of books,” confessed V.V.S. Laxman. And, what books does he like to read? “Well, all those biographies of great individuals who are successful in sports or business. I mean the inspirational success stories,” says the cricketer all geared up to beard the Lankans in their own den in the forthcoming Test series.

And, this 33-year-old cricketer, also considered among those cerebral sportsmen, was simply awe-struck with the range of books available at ‘Books & Beyond’, a new vertical of Spencer’s Retail in Ashoka Metropolitan Mall at the posh Banjara Hills.

Wide range

No doubt, the star batsman might have handled the best of the bowling attacks with ease, but the sheer variety among the 35,000 books available in the outlet came as a delight to him. The book he is currently hooked onto is the biography of cycling ace Lance Armstrong - the renowned cyclist who won the gruelling Tour de France for a record seven consecutive years between 1999 and 2005.

“It is an amazing story of a sportsperson who defied cancer and scaled unprecedented heights of excellence,” Laxman remarked. K. Dasaratharaman, president, Speciality Retail, said that the shop was positioned as a “community engaging store” that offered a wide selection of reading options, a comprehensive selection of toys and the entire gamut of art and stationery related merchandise for home, school and office use.

“The store will be an initiative to make the brand accessible to all the book-lovers in the city,” said M. Kampani, vice-president (operations).
