MANGALORE: The process for submission of scholarship applications by children of beedi workers under the labour welfare scheme of the Union Ministry of Labour has been changed. A press release from Sukumar, secretary of the South Canara Beedi Workers’ Federation, affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions, said that the scholarship applications should be submitted along with other documents at the time of admission. Heads of institutions should collect and keep the application forms with them and prepare a consolidated report of all such applications received and send two copies of the report to the Labour Welfare Commissioner. In case a student is promoted to a higher class in the subsequent year, the heads of institutions should send the names of such students for renewal of scholarship, Mr. Sukumar said. The reports should reach the Welfare Commissioner, Labour Welfare Organisation, Government of India, Number 6/7/2, Second Floor, Crescent Cross Road, Kumara Park East, Bangalore 560001 by August 31. Details of the scheme can be had from the association’s office at Thokkottu, Bajal, Marnamikatte, Bolar, Maidan Road, Bikkarnakatte, Vamanjoor, Ganjimath and other places, according to Mr. Sukumar.
