CPI(M) demands CBI probe in Padmapriya case

Staff Correspondent

Udupi: The Udupi district unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a dharna in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Friday demanding a CBI probe into the Padmapriya Bhat case. The party workers shouted slogans against the State Government alleging that it was trying to cover up the case. The protesters demanded the resignation of Home Minister V.S. Acharya.

The protesters submitted a memorandum, addressed to Governor Rameshwar Thakur, at the Deputy Commissioner’s office.

Contradictory statements by Ministers in the State Government had shown that an impartial probe by the State police was impossible. Only a CBI probe would reveal the truth behind the matter, it was said in the memorandum.

President of the Udupi taluk committee of the CPI(M) P. Vishwanath Rai and other leaders participated in the dharna.
