Toppers turn down MBBS seats

CHENNAI: Four of the nine toppers in the MBBS merit list, who were offered the allotment letters on the very first day of counselling, have turned down their MBBS seats. Third year dentistry student, Sonurajan, S.V. Manojkumar, A.M. Vignesh and E. Manojkumar have expressed in writing their decision to relinquish their MBBS seats.

A total of 1,323 students have taken up admission in various medical colleges in Tamil Nadu after the first round of counselling.

1,395 allotment letters given

A total of 1,395 allotment letters were given by the Directorate of Medical Education. Seventy two vacancies remain and will be filled during the second phase of counselling.

According to sources in the selection committee, the seats relinquished by students who were first offered letters will now be available for allotment as per the merit list and rule of reservation.
