Judge orders notice

CHENNAI: Justice A. Kulasekaran of the Madras High Court on Friday ordered notice returnable in four weeks on a petition by PMK deputy general secretary R.Balu of Ariyalur district, seeking a direction to the Director-General of Police to take action against the Superintendent of Police, Ariyalur district, for giving “illegal directions” to his subordinates.
The Judge ordered notice after hearing brief arguments by petitioner’s counsel S. Doraisamy and the Additional Advocate-General, P.S. Raman.
RDO enquiry
Staff Reporter from Ariyalur adds:
An RDO enquiry has been ordered into the use of ‘minimal police force’ for dispersing an agitating crowd in front of the court of the Judicial Magistrate on the evening of July 7 when Vanniyar Sangam president and PMK leader ‘Kaduvetti’ J. Guru was brought out after appearance in connection with a case registered by the Udayarpalayam police. PMK men and police personnel who sustained injuries in the incident are receiving treatment in the Ariyalur Government Hospital.
