3 PMK functionaries surrender before judicial magistrate

Staff Reporter

Operation of buses to interior parts curtailed

Heavy police deployment visible near government buildings

ARIYALUR: Three district-level functionaries of the Pattali Makkal Katchi and the Vanniyar Sangam, who were also named as accused along with Vanniyar Sangam president ‘Kaduvetti’ J. Guru in the ‘attempt to murder’ case registered earlier this year by the Udayarpalayam police, surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate on Friday.

District unit secretary of PMK Vaithyalingam, district unit secretary of Vanniyar Sangam Kolinji and Jayankondam unit youth secretary of the Sangam Sathyaraj surrendered before Judicial Magistrate Vijayarani. They were sent to judicial remand till July 18. Five other PMK men, Siva Selvakumar, Thanga Prabakaran, Palanimuthu, Kalyanasundaram and Karthikeyan, who were arrested and produced before the court by the Senthurai police for allegedly burning the car of Senthurai panchayat union president Selvaraj of DMK recently, were also remanded to custody till July 25.

Heavy police deployment was visible near government buildings and important junctions. Superintendent of Police V. Krishnamoorthy said the situation in the district was calm.

Operation of buses to interior parts that usually halt in villages during night time has been curtailed, he said, when asked about public complaints of difficulties caused by stoppage of buses.

When contacted, Collector R. Sudalaikannan said steps would be taken to minimise the difficulties to the public through operation of buses with police escort.
