Telugu Desam flays expenditure on publicity

HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam Party on Friday criticised government for what it called the indiscriminate use of the exchequer’s money on publicity and alleged that over Rs. 1,000 crore had been spent since the Congress came to power in the State.

At a press conference at the party headquarters Rajya Sabha member M.V. Mysoora Reddy circulated copies of a comparative statement of government issuing advertisements in the print and electronic media. Pointing out details, he went on to say how there was no procedure in releasing advertisements. He cited the example of how officials were not even looking at the Audit Bureau of Circulation certificates. The Telugu daily ‘Sakshi’, which was launched a few months ago, received advertisements with a billing of Rs. 66.97 lakh in May’08. On an average, government was spending Rs. 6 crore a month on media advertisements alone, Dr. Mysoora Reddy said.
