Acid attack: High court upholds order

Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: While confirming the orders of a lower court awarding 10 year rigorous imprisonment to a person who splashed acid on a girl, the Madras High Court has recommended to the government to consider providing her a job and also plastic surgery treatment for her in a government hospital.

The prosecution case was that Valentina of Villupuram district sustained injuries after Sekar alias Dhanasekar threw acid on her at Villupuram in September 2000. He resorted to the act after she allegedly spurned his proposal. The trial court at Villupuram convicted and sentenced Sekar to undergo 10 years rigorous imprisonment and fine. Challenging this, he preferred appeal.

Passing orders on the appeal, Justice S.K.Krishnan upheld the lower court’s order.
