Rajesh stars in Syed Ammal EC’s win

Karaikudi: An unbeaten 103 by M.M. Rajesh helped Syed Ammal Engineering College, Ramanathapuram defeat Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti by 58 runs and enter the quarterfinals of the Optra Computer Trophy State-level invitation Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Friday.

The scores (pre-quarterfinals): Syed Ammal Engg. College, Ramanathapuram 176 for one in 20 overs (M.M. Rajesh 103 n.o., Habib 46 n.o.) bt Sethu Institute of Tech., Kariapatti 118 for nine in 20 overs (Chandra Bose 41, Selvarajesh three for 18).

Urumu Dhanalakshmi College, Tiruchi 119 for nine in 20 overs (Gokulakrishnan 30) lost to Pudukottai Friends CC 120 for seven in 20 overs.

Bharathi Dasan University 102 for eight in 20 overs (Baburaj 50 n.o., Lokesh four for 17) lost to Bishop Heber College, Tiruchi 104 for two in 15 overs (Sudhakar 42 n.o., Shanmugaraj 30 n.o.).

P.S. Nirmal Kumar struck an unbeaten century as Tiruchi defeated Madurai by 68 runs and entered the quarterfinals in the Jaya Educational Trust Trophy inter-district under-16 cricket tournament in Tiruchi on Friday.
