Chennai: Paceman D.J. Gokulakrishnan’s eight for 28 provided the newly promoted UFCC (T. Nagar) a remarkable 12-run victory over Parry’s in a TNCA first round senior division league match at the Murugappa ground here on Friday.

Resuming the third day at nine for three while chasing 86 for victory, Parry’s was dismissed for 73 with Gokulakrishnan striking hard. Off-spinner Joel Joseph chipped in with two wickets to take his match tally to seven.

Defending champion Grand Slam scored a thumping innings and 148-run win over the other promoted side — Southern Railway Institute — at the Railway ground. S. Suresh Kumar claimed five for 79 with his off-spin as the Railway side was bowled out for 158 in its second innings.

Exciting contest

In a thrilling race for the lead at the IIT-Chemplast ground — Jolly Rovers required eight runs off the last over with a wicket in hand — the host finished five runs adrift at 428 for nine against Indian Bank. S. Vidyut (56, 130b, 7x4) and V. Subramania Siva (99, 111b, 16x4, 1x6) put on 134 for the third wicket and then N. Ajay Kudua (154 not out, 247b, 15x4) kept Rovers in the hunt with a spirited lower order.

Paceman Satish Kumar, who bowled the last over, and off-spinner Malolan Rangarajan claimed three wickets each for Indian Bank. Since the first innings could not be completed, the teams secured three points each.

Despite centuries from brothers Gnaneswara Rao (123, 221b, 11x4, 1x5) and Venugopala (104, 183b, 10x4, 3x6), host Globe Trotters fell short by five runs against Alwarpet at the MRF-Pachaiyappa’s ground.

Left-arm spinner R. Raghuram emerged the hero for Alwarpet with six for 76. He grabbed five for seven in 40 balls in a decisive spell. Raghuram prised out Venugopala soon after the batsman reached his hundred and Trotters, pursuing 368 for the lead, lost its way.

Abhinav, Einstein sizzle

At the ICL-Guru Nanak ground, host Vijay clinched the lead over Aruna. Abhinav Mukund (116, 232b, 14x4) and N. Einstein (122 not out, 233b, 16x4) batted through the first session. The duo added 146 for the fourth wicket. Vijay, which required 372 runs for five points, eventually declared at 384 for eight.

India Pistons secured the lead at the CPT-IP ground, bundling out Young Stars for 186. Badri Attavar made 62 for Young Stars while Pistons’ off-spinner M. Prabhu and paceman M.R. Shrinivas took four and three wickets each.

The home side was 135 for two in its second innings when the game concluded.
