Boost Cup cricket

The Chennai leg of the Boost Cup, a nationwide inter-school under-16 cricket tournament, will commence on July 12. Forty-seven schools from Chennai are expected to take part. This was announced at a press conference on Thursday by K.S. Viswanathan, Secretary, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association.

After coming through a knockout competition among the city schools, the top team in each centre will qualify for the eight-team inter-city challenge.

Twenty leading players from the inter-city challenge will be picked for a seven-day coaching camp which would be conducted by leading former cricketers and the best five declared ‘Ratnas’ and awarded cash scholarships. A Boost XI squad will later take on an international team in a three-match series.

Last year’s intra-Chennai champs Santhome HSS reached the final of the inter-city challenge.

Four Santhome HSS boys who made the coaching camp last year — M. Kamalesh (who was one of the five ‘Ratnas’), S. Dinesh, Pon Xavier and S. Akesh — were felicitated at the conference.
