One killed in blast

THIRUVANTHAPURAM: A 25-year-old youth was killed and two others injured, one of them seriously, in a blast at an air-conditioning repair unit at Moolavilakom, near Vanchiyoor, in the city on Friday.

The police identified the deceased as Prasanth, a partner of the air-conditioning repair firm ‘Softair Systems’ and resident of ‘Karmika,’ Neelakantapuram, Enikkara.

The injured were Rakesh, 21, of Thiruvallom and Mukesh, 22, of Nediyathattavila veedu, Chirayinkil.

According to the police, the incident took place around 4 p.m. when welding works were on in one of the congested rooms of the partially terraced building. A compressor burst all of a sudden killing Prasanth on the spot and injuring the others.

The house was also badly damaged. The doors and windows were damaged and cracks had developed on the walls of the house. Top police officials and forensic experts visited the spot.

The injured had been admitted to ward 6 of the Medical College Hospital. The body of Prasanth had been shifted to the mortuary. The Vanchiyoor police have registered a case.
