BANGALORE: The Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Friday promised the Karnataka High Court that it would not demolish the boundary walls built by several persons in Girinagar. The BBMP gave this assurance to the court when some of those allotted sites in Girinagar filed a petition, saying that the BBMP was about to demolish the compound and boundary walls they had constructed around their sites. ClaimThe petitioners claimed that they had been allotted the sites by the housing society and that they were only fencing their land against encroachment. They also said that the Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) had decided to allot the sites to them. The BBMP said the sites could only be allotted by the BDA and not anybody else. Moreover, the BDA had only passed a resolution to allot the sites. It, however, told the court that it would not demolish the compound walls till the next date of hearing. AdjournedJustice Huluvadi G. Ramesh adjourned further hearing on the case. Justice Rammohan Reddy on Friday pulled up the Bruhut Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) for flouting court orders and permitting two hoardings to come up on a private property on Mahatma Gandhi Road. The court said it had asked the BBMP to inform the owner of the private land on Mahatma Gandhi Road if any application was received by it for installing hoardings. ‘Violation’The building owner, Caroline Webb, a U.K. national, said the BBMP had violated court orders by permitting two hoardings to come up on Andrews Building. Taking severe exception to the conduct of the BBMP, Mr. Justice Reddy wanted to know the norms followed by the civic agency in allowing hoardings. He asked the BBMP Commissioner to file an affidavit and adjourned hearing of the case to July 24. QuashedJustice H.N. Nagmohan Das on Friday quashed a petition by former Director-General of Police J.E. George against another former Director-General and Inspector-General of Police, C. Dinakar and Sheila George.
