Award for Malayalee film-maker

BHUBANESWAR: Eminent Malayalee writer, filmmaker and editor Mr. M.T. Vasudavan Nair would be conferred the coveted Vyasa Kabi Fakir Mohan national award for literature. The honour, instituted this year by the Fakir Mohan University of Balasore, has been named after Fakir Mohan Senapati, the father of modern Oriya literature. It carries a cash award of Rs.25, 000 besides a citation and a shawl.

The announcement was made during the university’s 10th anniversary celebrations at the Balasore on Friday. It would the second university of the State to institute such a major literary award; the first being the Gangadhar Meher National Award instituted in 1992 by the Sambalpur University.

In view of the lack of any provision of pension for the employees, the university authorities announced creation of the University Pension Fund and Employees Welfare Fund. Collector Alekh Chandra Padhiary and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sukantipriya Pattnaik were present in the ceremony. Four noted personalities of Balasore and Bhadrak districts - Ramakanta Nayak, Durga Prasanna Panda, Gobinda Chandra Patnaik and Bhagirathi Nanda Sharma – were felicitated on the occasion.

The university would demand the status of a Central University and efforts are on to apprise the University Grants Commission, revealed the V-C. It has further resolved to launch several new and innovative courses during the 11th plan period that includes bio-chemistry, molecular biology, bio-informatics, applied microbiology, earth science and a five-year integrated course in MBA.
