PANAJI: The fourth Tri Continental Film Festival, which will be held here from July 25 to 30, will showcase films on human rights. It is being organised by Moving Images, a local film club in collaboration with the Entertainment Society of Goa and the International Centre, Goa. The festival is brought to India by a human rights organisation, Breakthrough, New Delhi. There are films that capture diverse images from the Global South narrative, documentary, feature and short-length films from Africa, Asia and America. Throughout the year, the festival’s Travelling Screen tours various cities across India taking these award-winning and critically acclaimed films to universities, cultural institutions and citizens’ groups. The festival was started by a group of Latin American film-makers, Movimiento de Documentalistas, as an art and culture initiative to explore links between social struggles and respect for human rights. It was initiated in Argentina in 2002, South Africa in 2003 and in India in 2004. Post the festival, Moving Images will make these films available and also those from previous Tri Continental Festivals to various colleges in the State.
