Loan waiver: certificates given away to farmers

VIZIANAGARAM: Zilla Parishad Chairperson B. Appala Naidu and Lok Sabha member Botcha Jhansi Lakshmi gave away no dues certificates under the Agriculture Debt Waiver and Debt Relief Scheme –2008 at ‘Runa Vimukthi Mela’ at Revenue Kalyanamandapam here on Friday. The debt waiver melas that began at Gurla on July 9 would continue in each mandal till July 19.

Speaking on the occasion, the ZP Chairperson said the banks had identified 1,04,876 small and marginal farmers in the district and the amount involved under the scheme was Rs.136.29 crores. Ms. Jhansi Lakshmi said the government had decided to extend ‘pavala vaddi’ scheme to farmers from the current kharif. Kolagatla Veerabhadra Swamy, MLA, Joint Director (Agriculture) M.N. Gangaram, and bankers were present.
