Kakinada: The Department of Employment and Training (DoET) targeted to impart new skills and upgrade the existing talents of 1,00,000 educated unemployed youths under ‘Rajiv Udyogasri’ scheme to enable them to get jobs in industrial units coming up in the district. The State Government has prescribed that 35,000 youths should be trained in the current year but that number was pegged at One lakh so that at least 60,000 to 70,000 of them could be shown jobs, said Collector Gopalakrishna Dwivedi. Review meetIn a review meeting on the employment scenario, Mr. Dwivedi said there was a steady stream of industries being set up in the district and several projects were expanding their operations. This creates scope for a large number of jobs to those possessing requisite skills. The DoET was therefore identifying youth who could be trained to meet human resource requirement of industries. The Collector sought information about the number of jobs that could be created by industries and other organizations in one year so that the DoET can endorse the candidature of youths trained under ‘Rajiv Udyogasri’. It would be mutually beneficial for the industries and job-seekers as the locally available talent could be tapped readily to the extent possible. Jobs that require special skills could be filled with non-local candidates. ProtsahamCollector Dwivedi called for donations to sponsor students, who secured more than 500 marks in the 10th class, for undergoing coaching for various competitive examinations in corporate colleges. The expenditure on each student - Rs 25,000 per year - would be borne out of the fund created by pooling the donations. Donations given for this purpose were eligible for income tax exemption under Sec. 80 C. Eight hundred students were joining the institutions of their choice in the first phase of the scheme. District Rural Employment Agency project director Ch Kumara Swami, District Employment Officer K Santhi and District Industries Centre general manager K Narayana Rao also took part in the deliberations.
