One detained for South Delhi shooting

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: A 30-year-old man has been detained in connection with two separate shooting incidents in which three persons were killed in South Delhi on Friday night.

Refusing to divulge any details about the detainee, the police said on Saturday that he was being questioned about his accomplice and his own role in the two incidents.

“He might be involved in one of the two incidents,” said a senior police officer.

The first incident took place around 8-45 on Friday night when two unidentified assailants accosted two young men on a motorcycle and shot at them. It is learnt that the assailants first shook hands with the victims and then opened fire at them after a minor altercation. The victims -- Ashmit (28) and Harpreet (27) -- were declared brought dead at the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences. Both were unemployed.

The assailants were then joined by two of their friends and the four tried to rob a motorcycle near Andrews Ganj. When the motorcyclist offered resistance, the culprits shot at him. However, the bullet missed the motorcyclist and hit a scooterist passing by, killing him on the spot.

The deceased was later identified as Sanjeev Singh of Uttam Nagar. He was employed as a guard at a hotel in the Capital.
