More efficient veterinary healthcare system planned

PUDUKOTTAI: The Animal Husbandry Department has sent a plan for computerisation of all its offices in the State at an outlay of Rs.5 crores for ensuring a more efficient veterinary health care system, the Commissioner for Animal Husbandry P. R. Sampath said.

Presiding over the inaugural of the training programme for veterinary inspectors at the regional research station of the Tamil Nadu Veterinary Animal Sciences University here on Saturday, he said that the proposal was under the active consideration of the Finance Department.

He said that the state government had also initiated special efforts for filling the vacant posts of veterinary inspectors at the veterinary centres in the state. The government had ordered recruitment of a total of 531 inspectors this year.

On the training programme being imparted to 43 veterinary inspectors here, he said that the training was being imparted in a phased manner in parts of the state. In the first phase, a total of 110 veterinary inspectors underwent the training at Hosur.

The Collector Reeta Harish Thakkar released a guide on veterinary health care on the occasion. She appealed to the trainees to come to strive for improving the lot of the livestock owners, who were mostly landless farmers.

The Regional Joint Director of Animal Husbandry, Thanjavur, C. Govindaraj and the faculty from the university P.I. Ganesan were among those who spoke.
