Samathuvapuram to be set up

KARUR: A new Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram would be established soon at Veeranampatti in Karur district, according to Karur MP K.C. Palanisamy.

Reviewing the progress of welfare and development schemes at the Vigilance and Monitoring Committee meeting held here on Friday, Mr. Palanisamy said under the Indra Awas Yojana a total of 1,688 new group houses were being constructed at a cost of Rs. 6.97 crore during 2007-08, while 411 kuccha houses were being upgraded as pucca houses at a cost of Rs. 51.37 lakh.

Under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, 244 works have been taken up at a cost of Rs. 7.19 crore and 100 works completed. Under the MP Local Area Development Fund Scheme, 69 works have been taken up at a cost of Rs. 2.20 crore and 57 completed.

In the Periyar Memmorial Samathuvapuram Scheme, 100 new group houses would be constructed at Veeranampatti in Melapaguthi panchayat of Kadavur Panchayat Union.

Collector T.N. Venkatesh, Project Officer, District Rural Development Agency, S. Namagiri, Project Officer, Mahalir Thittam, S. Ayyaru, Aravakurichi MLA M.A. Khaleelur Rahman, District Panchayat Chairman Poovai Ramesh Babu, and others participated in the meeting.
