‘Colonies, villages outside Davangere city will come under DCC limits’ Study on to assess requirements of cities, towns in State DAVANGERE: Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S. Suresh Kumar has said that an airport will be established in the district. Even a small airport would encourage industries to set up shop here, he said. Chairing a meeting of elected representatives and members of the public here on Saturday, Mr. Kumar said he would direct the Davangere City Corporation and the Davangere Urban Development Authority to find suitable land for the project. He would, meanwhile, complete other formalities required for infrastructure development. He was speaking in reply to an appeal made by Davangere MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa that an airport be established in the district. The State Government was planning to develop all towns and cities in Karnataka, and a study was on to understand each one’s requirements. Referring to the demand by Ashraya house beneficiaries that their loans be waived, the Minister said he would discuss the issue with Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa. The Minister also said an underground drainage system, drinking water facilities and other basic needs would be made available to people living in Ashraya colonies and eight villages situated on the outskirts of Davangere city. The colonies and villages would also be brought under the purview of the Davangere City Corporation, he added. Mr. Kumar said he had received 118 applications during the Janaspandana programme on Saturday morning. House taxCouncillors K.G. Shivakumar, B.M. Basavarajaiah and Dinesh K. Shetty urged the Minister to work towards developing Davangere city. Mr. Shetty said house tax had increased steeply and it would be a burden on middle-class families. He appealed to the Minister for a reduction in the house tax rate.
