Samithi warns of stir against Azhikode

Staff Reporter

Opposes statements against Amrithananda Mayi

Says a series of agitations will be launched

Thrissur: The Samskarika Samrakshana Samithi, which shows a leaning towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has threatened to launch a series of State-level agitations against Sukumar Azhikode, writer and social activist, if he continues to make controversial remarks against Mata Amrithananda Mayi.

March to house

Members of the Samithi took out a march from Puthur junction to Prof. Azhikode’s residence on Saturday. The police blocked and dispersed the activists.

Prof. Azhikode was addressing a public meeting at Chalakudy when the activists marched to his residence.

Addressing a cultural meeting that preceded the march, BJP State vice-president V. Muralidharan said the statement of the Purogamana Kala Sahitya Sanghom in favour of Prof. Azhikode betrayed servility.

‘Fake gods’

Bharatiya Vichara Kendra State general secretary T.G. Mohandas said the march marked the beginning of a campaign against “fake gods’ in the world of culture.

BJP district general secretary B. Gopalakrishnan presided.
