TALKING TOUGH: Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president Meerajuddin Patel addressing a press conference along with his party colleagues Annadanappa and D. Manjunath in Bangalore on Saturday. BANGALORE: Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president Merajuddin Patel has accused the BJP of subverting democracy in the State. Mr. Patel told presspersons here on Saturday that the BJP had infused “politics of deceit” in the State and was using the elected representatives as “tradable commodity.” “The BJP started buying MLAs of the other parties with the new cash machine they have found in Bellary,” he said. Mr. Patel recalled the statement of the BJP leader K.S. Eshwarappa who had hinted about splitting other political parties to remain in power. However, “this kind of politics will not work in Karnataka and sooner or later the BJP will crumble under its own weight”. Mr. Patel said the Janata Dal (Secular) was not worried about a few MLAs crossing the floor. The party had started preparing for the elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike and the Lok Sabha. “The BJP will be given a proper drubbing by the people for the tactics of subversion they have played on the electorate in the Lok Sabha and the BBMP elections”. Accusing the Government of neglecting law and order, Mr. Patel said incidents of communal unrest in R.T. Nagar, Sultanpalya, J.C. Nagar and Hebbal in Bangalore on Friday showed that the law and order had completely broken down in the State after the BJP Government took over the reigns of administration. Analysing the chain of events that culminated in the communal disturbance, he said it was a pre-planned operation by some vested interests which had gone unnoticed by the intelligence. When asked if any more of the Janata Dal (S) MLAs were planning to leave the party, Mr. Patel said that the chapter was closed. The remaining MLAs would be loyal to the party.
