All new centres to have three storeys

NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday inaugurated a three-storey community centre at Old Seemapuri in North-East Delhi. She also laid the foundation stone for similar centre at Dilshad Colony near Seemapuri.

The new community centre has been constructed at a cost of Rs.142.50 lakh and is spread over 1,721 square metres.

The centre at Dilshad Colony would cost Rs.147.50 lakh and would be spread over 1,599 sq. m.

Ms. Dikshit said East Delhi was poised for large-scale infrastructure development. The coming up of the Commonwealth Games Village on the banks of the Yamuna had proved to be a catalyst in the development of East Delhi, she added.

The Chief Minister said her government has now decided to commission more community centres in East Delhi to provide ample space for social, cultural and other family gatherings. This would help in maintaining social harmony.

All the community centres, she said, would have a big hall, an office room, a kitchen area and separate bathrooms on the ground floor; library and store room on the first floor; and a hall, kitchen area, separate bathrooms and store room on the second floor.

The centre at Old Seemapuri would provide some space for an office of the Department of Social Welfare.
