A Delhi youth before and after dental surgery at SDM College Hospital in Dharwad. DHARWAD: The dentists of SDM College of Dental Sciences and Hospital have succeeded in giving a new face to a patient by treating him of his rare dental problem, which required orthodontic treatment and jaw surgery. According to a release issued by C. Bhasker Rao, Principal of the college, Ashok (name changed), a youth from New Delhi, had approached the hospital with a rare dental problem. The patient was suffering from extreme alignment of the teeth and jaws associated with a syndrome where in a few of the permanent teeth did not erupt while few half-erupted stuck in the bone itself. The problem had not only affected his facial appearance but also influenced his chewing abilities. After initial diagnosis, a team of doctors including Prof. Gopalkrishna and Anand K. Patil, carried out the treatment, which involved carrying out jaw surgery. The surgical and orthodontic treatment, which was spread over two years, finally resulted in giving a “new face” to the patient, the release said. Dr. Rao, who monitored the case since beginning, said the patient recently visited the hospital for check-up and showed excellent stable results.
