Belgaum: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Government in the State would strive to make Karnataka a “model State” in the country, even as the border city of Belgaum will be developed into a “model city” in the State, Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa said here on Saturday. Addressing a gathering on the occasion of the valedictory of platinum jubilee of Kannada daily Samyukta Karnataka, here on Saturday, the Chief Minister said Karnataka had been ranked seventh on the development index of the country. The BJP Government would make efforts to boost the process of development and progress so as to make it a model State. Without quoting the former Prime Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) president H.D. Deve Gowda, Lok Shikshana Trust (publishers of the daily), chairman, freedom fighter and former minister Haranahalli Ramaswamy remarked: “Here is the same person who has formed government without anybody’s help…” He said newspapers should give to people what they need. MP Prabhakar B. Kore and leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Assembly M. Mallikarjun Kharge spoke.
