Rise in railway division earnings

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Thiruvananthapuram Division of the Southern Railway has recorded an increase of 29 per cent in its earnings for April-June 2008 over the earnings during the same period for the financial year 2007-08, a press note issued here said.

For the quarter ending the current financial year, the division posted earnings of Rs.175.32 crore. The corresponding figure during the last financial year was Rs.136.40 crore.

The revenue as a result of ticket checking measures fetched the division Rs.70.78 lakh during the three months ending June as against Rs.53. 55 lakh, last year — a 32 per cent increase.

The division ‘lifted’ 26,170 tonnes of freight in June 2008 as against 22,000 tonnes last year.

This again is an increase of 29 per cent. The overall freight performance for the first quarter of 2008-09 is 0.726 metric tonnes which is higher than the figure for the previous year, the press note said.
