Water, water everywhere: Heavy rains lashed North India on Saturday morning forcing several, including this child in Jalandhar, to shift household items to safer places. CHANDIGARH: With 376.4 mm rainfall in June this year, Chandigarh experienced the highest recorded rainfall for the month in the last 20 years, breaking the previous record of 256.6 mm in 1988. In the month of June the city has received 436.6 mm rainfall. “This is early monsoon. And may subside now,” said Meteorological Centre director Surender Pal. The city recorded 179.6 mm rainfall on June 30, while the previous highest rainfall on a single day was 196.5 mm in June 1988. The monsoon hits the city in June-end or early July, but this year it arrived in Chandigarh on June 14. Mr. Paul added that the rainfall would help the paddy farming although cotton farmers could face problems due to moisture. The early showers have also brought relief for the people of Chandigarh. Two killedChandigarh: A woman and her child were killed and two others injured when a wall collapsed over their shanties following heavy rains in Panchkula near here today, police said. “The woman and her child were killed and two others were hospitalised at PGIMER in Chandigarh,” Panchkula’s Superintendent of Police Sandeep Khirwar said. Respite for RajasthanJaipur: Rain has brought respite from the humid weather in several parts of Rajasthan.
