Patiala: Punjab State Electricity Board on Saturday reduced the duration of power cuts to 2 to 4 hours per day following the reduction in demand for power due to heavy rains lashing the region. “Due to rains in Punjab and adjoining states today the demand for power reduced substantially and board was able to reduce the power cuts to around 2 -4 hours,” PSEB Chairman, Y.S. Ratra said. He hoped that the situation would further improve within a few days. Mr. Ratra said there has been abrupt rise in the demand of power to 1709 lakh units on July 11 against availability of 1478 LU from all sources. Because of severe shortage of power, PSEB imposed 6 hours power cuts per day both in urban and rural areas. Mr. Ratra also informed that PSEB officials were promptly rectifying faults in the system wherever they occur. PTI
