Civil work has commenced Official inspects ongoing works KARUR: Six government hospitals in Karur district are set to get new and additional buildings at an estimated cost of Rs.7 crore. Civil work has commenced, according to the Health and Family Welfare Project Director P.W.C. Davidar. Under the Tamil Nadu Health Systems Project, it has been planned to upgrade facilities in 270 government hospitals across the State at a cost of Rs. 550 crore. Of that amount, up to Rs.200 crore would be spent on constructing or renovating buildings. Under that head, government hospitals in Karur had been sanctioned Rs.7 crore, Mr. Davidar told presspersons after inspecting the ongoing works in the government hospitals at Kulithalai, Pallapatti, Aravakurichi, Velayuthampalayam and Krishnarayapuram, apart from Karur. While in some hospitals works required were being identified, in some others, contracts for the identified works were being finalised. As far as the Karur Government Hospital was concerned, the outpatient hall functioning in an old building would be demolished and reconstructed at a cost of Rs.1.89 crore. Across the State, considering the urgency and importance automatic generators had been provided for 45 hospitals so far while in many others generators would be installed soon. Attention would be paid to drinking water, sanitation, electrical and medical equipment maintenance and stocking of adequate medicines in the government hospitals, he said. Joint Director of Medical Services K. Govindasamy, Deputy Director of Health Services Sadasivam and Resident Medical Officer Ramanathan accompanied Mr. Davidar.
