In a line: This award-winning picture was taken by Nathan at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam. Bangalore: J.S. Nathan (37) was surprised when his hobby, photography, won him the Best of Show prize in the environmental photography contest held by the Lion’s Club International between June 23 and 27. Participants from 203 countries exhibited 20,000 photographs in four categories: animal life, weather, plant life and landscape. Mr. Nathan sent a picture of a line of Terrapin turtles on a tree-trunk half-immersed in water. “The picture was taken at the Kaziranga National Park in Assam,” he says. The Best of Show prize is given to one person in the four categories. While Mr. Nathan has been taking wildlife pictures for over four years now, he entered a photography competition for the first time in the “animal life” category. “Of the 20,000 photographs, 13 are short-listed and one is chosen for the award,” he says. For the first time, an Indian has won this award. Otherwise, a property development consultant, Mr. Nathan pursues his passion for wildlife photography by travelling to various parts of India.
