Sridharan has authored books and published a monthly magazine Free copies of DVD will be given to 2,200 parents at the function CHENNAI: “The problem is not the students, but parents,” says N.C. Sridharan, lawyer, educationist and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) consultant, whose commitment to education is exceeded only by his passion to reach out to parents. For the past 15 years, Mr.Sridharan has authored books, anchored programmes on television and published a monthly magazine to make parents more aware of how they can bring out the best in their children. The latest offering, from the bouquet of resources he has created for parents, is a DVD, ‘Enda kuzhandayum, nalla kuzahndaidaan’ (Every child is special) which will be released in Tiruvallur on Sunday. The title summarises Mr. Sridharan’s philosophy: he believes that every child has the capability to become a genius. The books he has authored, like ‘Your child can also become an Einstein,’ ‘Easy, very very easy’, are written in simple Tamil filled with accessible tips that parents can follow to understand and nurture their children. The parents feel that by admitting their children to school, their responsibility is over. It is not, he says quoting Mrs.Y.G.Parthasarathy, Dean and Director of Padma Seshadri group of schools, featured in the DVD. Founder of schoolMr. Sridharan’s tryst with education began when he shifted to Tiruvallur 15 years ago and found that quality education was not available for his daughter. Today, the school which he helped establish in Tiruvallur, Sri R.M. Jain Vidyashram has 2,200 students. While working with the school, he recalls an incident, which made him focus on parents. A Standard III student had taken a note from her teacher asking her parents to come to school. The mother punished the child assuming she had done something wrong without realising the teacher had invited the parents to compliment the child. This incident spurred him to educate parents to be more sensitive to their children and help them form a better relationship. Counselling for parentsMr. Sridharan then started conducting free counselling sessions for parents twice a month at the school. He invited parents of Viswanathan Anand, P.T. Usha and other luminaries to the school so that other parents could interact and learn. Many such initiatives culminated in producing the DVD. It has simple tips for parents with celebrities such as K.J.Yesudas talking about their education. The DVD will be released by M.S. Sundararajan, Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Bank. Rajendra Kumar, Tiruvallur Collector, will receive the first copy. Free copies will be given to 2,200 parents at the function.
