BANGALORE: Normality returned to Munireddypalya in J.C. Nagar, which witnessed violent protest on Friday. While people went about their routine, doctors are battling to save the left eye of police constable D. Siddaraju, who was injured in the stone throwing. Mr. Siddaraju was initially admitted to Bhagwan Mahaveer Hospital from where he was taken to Narayana Netralaya. He is now in M.S. Ramaiah Hospital for surgery to correct the damage caused to the bone around the eye. “Doctors at Narayana Netralaya have given us hope of treating Mr. Siddaraju and saving the left eye,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (North) Syed Ulfath Hussain. Among the policemen injured during the stone throwing were Assistant Commissioner of Police (Malleswaram) A. Krishnappa, who suffered hairline fracture on the left hand. Two constables from KSRP were also injured. Assistant Commissioner of Police (Yeshwanthpur) Nagappa will be discharged on Sunday. Many of the shops and business establishments at Munireddypalya were open on Saturday. Prayers were held at the shrine which was reportedly desecrated on Friday. The police patrolled the area. “We innocents had to suffer because of the deeds of some miscreants,” said Anwar Pasha, who runs a fruit stall in the area. “We stayed put in our homes and came out only this morning,” said Parveen Begaum, who had come to purchase vegetables. The J.C. Nagar police arrested seven persons allegedly involved in desecrating the shrine and also causing disturbance in the area. “We are working towards catching the real culprits,” said Police Commissioner Shankar M. Bidari. The police have also taken note of visuals that showed some policemen using excessive force against a few residents. A memo has been issued asking police officers to exercise control over the forces deployed for “bandobast.” Instructions have also been given to take disciplinary action against the police constable who beat a man with the butt of his rifle.
