Marriage of minds... and culture

FROM DENMARK WITH LOVE: Govind Radhakrishnan of Thiruvananthapuram and Denmark-born Anna Mary being greeted by friends after their marriage which was held according to Hindu customs in the city on Saturday.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: When Govind Radhakrishnan tied the knot with Anna Mary in the city on Saturday, it was more than a meeting of hearts; it was a confluence of cultures.

Among those who arrived to attend the marriage, held according to Hindu customs at the Aswathy hall at Ambalamukku, were 51 special guests from Denmark who were attired in silk sarees, dhotis and shirts. This was their first visit to Kerala.

Anna who studied Philosophy in Denmark did her thesis on ‘The Mahabharata.’ This was what brought her to India and to ‘God’s Own Country.’ Yoga was another passion that drew her to Kerala five years ago. Later, she signed up to study drama with noted playwright Kavalam Narayana Panicker.

After a few months, she donned the role of ‘Savithri’ in the play ‘Satyavan Savithri.’

It was during this time that she met Govind Radhakrishnan — who works as a service engineer — at a yoga class.

A year ago, the duo teamed up to take yoga classes in Denmark and very soon, decided to team up for life.

Anna’s siblings Kristen and Lisa and mother Ulla were among those who came from Denmark to attend the wedding.
